feeling virtuous...

My home is officially carbon-neutral now. I have the certificate to prove it! Although I obviously know my home still produces the 2.4t CO2 a year that it did before, give or take a bit for the wireless router and the energy-efficient lightbulbs.

To offset those emissions, I am contributing to a waste heat recovery project at a cement factory and a hydropower plant in China through the Carbon Neutral Company. I chose China because I believe that this country has the greatest potential for screwing our planet over completely, so although I don't agree with the human rights record and such I looked beyond that to make a difference for all of us. I also bought an alarm clock running on water and a staple-less stapler for my tax receipts... It always annoyed me that after the expiry of the time for which you have to hang on to your records I had to pick out all the staples again before I could put the documents in the shredder and then in the paper recycling collection...
